Franchise Owner / Inspector
Rod has been the owner of The BrickKicker Inspection Services, Columbus franchise since 1994. He is an Accredited Certified Inspector (ACI) through the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) and is a certified inspector by InterNACHI. Rod has performed several thousand whole house inspections. He is licensed by the State of Ohio to Inspect Wood Destroying Insects (aka Termite Inspector); perform Radon Measurement Services; perform Mold Testing and is a Level One Certified Infrared Thermographer. In addition, Rod is also recognized as a HUD fee paid inspector. His passion for the home inspection industry combined with annual attendance to ASHI's Inspection World ensures he can participate in industry related educational courses to improve his inspection skills while being able to share them with others in the industry.
Using his passion, Rod also trained home inspectors through a program at Hondros College, both as employees for The BrickKicker Home Inspection and as competitors. He can count as many as 20 different inspectors who are either still in the business or have worked in the inspection field.
Rod contributes his success both professionally and personally to his 26 years of marriage to his beautiful wife Lisa. She carries a strong sense of value and character that brings such a blessing to Rod and The BrickKicker. Rod and Lisa have raised four young adult children of which they are very proud. When he is not working, Rod enjoys traveling with his family (FYI his vacation goal to get at least one sunset picture during the trip), boating, watching Ohio football games, Columbus Blue Jacket hockey games, and re-watching old bad movies.
Since 2008, Doug has been a successful and loyal employee of The BrickKicker. He is a member of The American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) and is a certified inspector by InterNACHI. When Doug is not working, he enjoys Columbus Blue Jacket hockey games, Ohio State University athletics, cooking, listening to classic rock music, and trying to pick the winner of The Kentucky Derby. Doug and Rod (the owner of this inspection business) met back in college while both working in the food industry and have been friends since. It was Doug’s work ethic and commitment to customer service that convinced Rod to bring Doug into the inspection industry.

On a personal note, Josh has been married to his beautiful wife, Shannon, for several years. The two of them have a strong faith based marriage and 2 young children who they adore deeply. It is very common for Josh to tell stories about his family activities during company functions.

If you are a homeowner and you believe you have a mold problem, you have come to the right place. Order a Mold Investigation and The BrickKicker will review your property for conditions that are conducive to microbial growth. We start at the roof and work our way down to the foundation, looking for visible mold and conditions that can lead to microbial growth in concealed spaces. We have helped many clients who believed their homes were making them sick by identifying sources of moisture and areas of concern that require remediation. Occasionally we may also recommend laboratory testing. We only recommend sampling in the context of a thorough assessment when it can be used to test a hypothesis.
Pest inspections are conducted by our licensed professionals to perform inspections of building structures to determine damage or possibility of damage from insects, bugs, termites or dry rot conditions. The BrickKicker inspector is looking for wood invaders such as termites, beetles, and insects such as cockroaches or carpenter ants, among other pests.
Radon is a cancer-causing, radioactive gas. The Surgeon General has warned the radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer, killing 21,000 people per year in the United States. You cannot see, smell or taste radon. When you breathe are containing radon, you increase your risk of getting lung cancer. Testing is the only way to find out your home’s radon levels. The EPA and the Surgeon General recommend testing all homes for radon. If you find that there are high levels, the home can be fixed. Even very high levels of radon can be reduced to acceptable levels.
We use Sun Nuclear continuous radon monitors. These devices are very expensive but will show the radon measurement over time, note any unusual or abnormal reading in the test, detect tampering with the device and produce reliable results that you can be confident with. You will get a detailed report on the day the test is completed. We do not need a 3rd party laboratory to interpret our results.

Homes without municipal sewers or water supplies typically have to have their own source service. If there is a well it can either be a deep or shallow style. If there is a septic system several types of systems can be employed. The BrickKicker has the knowledge and ability to assist you with your well and septic questions and needs.
Thermal imaging or the use of infrared cameras has become a very widely accepted practice of home inspectors. It is yet another tool to allow The BrickKicker to help you purchase your home intelligently. The thermal camera can help identify thermal openings in your home, possible plumbing leaks in the walls, potentially damaging cracks leaks in the foundation or even issues under low sloped or flat roofs. Unlike many of our competitors, we do not charge extra for using the tools that we have on hand. IR thermography is included with every home inspection.
FHA, VA and 203K are all types of loans which will require certain minimum standards be present before a loan is presented. Systems like: Heating, Plumbing, Electrical, Structural, Roof, Thermal and Weatherproofing all require certain standards be met. The BrickKicker inspector is certified to provide the necessary documents for each one of these. There is no reason to call for one, two or every three different contractors to provide these documents.
