Condo / Townhome

Condominium and Townhome units typically fall under some sort of management, however that doesn't mean The BrickKicker won't be there to guide you through the makeup of the building, how things work and where.

Generally, a condo is one unit within a larger building which has full coverage or control on exterior items, whereas a Townhome is owned with control of the exterior and interior given to the owner of the unit.

Other Services We Specialize In

Radon Testing

Radon is a cancer-causing, radioactive gas. The Surgeon General has warned that radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer, killing 21,000 people per year in the United States. You cannot see, smell or taste radon, however, when you breathe air containing radon, you increase your risk of getting lung cancer. Testing is the only way to find out your home’s radon levels. The EPA and the Surgeon General recommend testing all homes for radon. If you find that there are high levels, the home can be fixed. Even very high levels of radon can be reduced to acceptable levels.

Mold Sampling

Mold is a naturally occurring process that is present throughout the world. Some circumstances can provide adverse and potentially dangerous conditions to humans when certain species of molds are present in a home. Through professional sampling, the actual presence of mold can be determined and by what means would be necessary to treat the specimen found within the home.

Pest

Many homes across the country are subject to shared occupancy with pest, mainly for shelter but others may use the home as a food source. It is only through a thorough and professional pest inspection that one can be confident any unwanted visitors do not set up shop within the home. These tests and inspections are often provided as a specific service through an outside professional source and considered beyond the scope of the standard inspection or home inspection license.

Septic Inspections

Homes without municipal sewers or water supplies typically have to have their own source service. If there is a well it can either be a deep or shallow style. If there is a septic system several types of systems can be employed. The BrickKicker has the knowledge and ability to assist you with your well and septic questions and needs.

Thermal Imaging

Thermal imaging or the use of infrared cameras has become a very widely accepted practice of home inspectors. It is yet another tool to allow The BrickKicker to help you purchase your home intelligently. The thermal camera can help identify thermal openings in your home, possible plumbing leaks in the walls, potentially damaging cracks leaks in the foundation or even issues under low sloped or flat roofs. Unlike many of our competitors, we do not charge extra for using the tools that we have on hand. IR thermography is included with every home inspection.

Melvin Mohn is the owner of The BrickKicker in East Central Missouri.
He is a member of the America Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) and the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (InterNachi). He also spends much of his spare time volunteering for organizations like Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA). Not to mention the time he volunteers helping his young daughter sell Girl Scout cookies!

Melvin moved to the area in 2008 to make a better life for himself and his family just before his daughter was born. He has since graduated from college with a BS in Small Business Management. After college, Melvin has worked in the Home Improvement business and has even owned his own insurance agency.

The journey to the home inspection industry began when he had to help rebuild his father’s cabin in Illinois after the passing of his father. The cabin had experienced a flood shortly before his father’s death, and FEMA required it to be lifted. The workmanship was abismal to say the least. At the time there was no regulation, or code, enforcement in the small town his father lived in. So, the contractor did not have to abide by any rules during the lifting, and repair, of the cabin.

During that time he was working for The Home Depot Home Services Dept. While he was working for The Home Depot he visited with many new homeowners who were disappointed to be fixing or replacing items throughout the home that were not discovered during the home inspection process. One customer had to replace her entire roof due to a leak that was missed during the inspection.

In the quest to start his own business, to put his degree and experience to work, he came across a company called The BrickKicker Inspection Services. LIGHT BULB!!! This seemed like a natural progression. With his experience, schooling , training, and passion for perfection, it only made sense that The BrickKicker was the perfect place to call home.
